24 Days of Kindness Challenge

ByLeah ✨ Community Manager /

Kindness doesn’t always come easy. It’s easier to help out a friend or check in on your mum when things are going well and we had a good sleep. But what about the other days? Like when there’s a global pandemic, social isolation, job loss, cancelled plans, and a whole general uneasiness about the future? How do we find the space and time to open ourselves to kindness? How do we even think about kindness at a time like this?

Kindness is actually how we can make it through this challenging time. Kindness can elevate our mood, improve our mental and physical health, makes us feel connected and offer us purpose, and even reduce stress. The more acts of kindness we do, the better we get at it. Like everything in life, it takes practice.

Throughout December, we are creating a daily practice to bring more kindness into your life. Each day, from December 1st to 24th, we will share a kindness prompt, an easy and affordable way to both practice kindness and make 2020 a little bit better.

You can share your acts of kindness on our world map and even encourage others to keep up the kind work. Tag us on social media using the hashtag #24daysofkindness. Check back each day to see our daily kindness prompt and get ready to make kindness the new normal.

Here's my Day 2 story for #24DaysofKindness, Say Something Kind. Today I posted about how much I appreciate the team I'm working with. It took me all day to think about how I wanted to complete the challenge. I say lots of "nice" things to people all day. Saying something kind means really seeing them, and, letting them see you. And so as I reflected on this I thought about this team and how they are all really giving of themselves to make this project happen. In expressing that, I realized how lucky I am to have this fantastic group of people to work with. It's kind of like boomerang kindness!

Today's #24DaysofKindess suggestion is to reach out to someone you haven't spoken to in a while. I reached out to an old friend and shared with her some thoughts about being hopeful right now. It made me smile just to do it. I miss her and I hope we can see each other someday soon, but in the meantime, just sharing that ray of hope lifted me.
