24 Days of Kindness Challenge: Day 5

ByLeah ✨ Community Manager /

Today’s kindness prompt is to breathe. To set aside some time to do a meditation or yoga. Something that brings you back to your body and breath. I want to be clear: we are not asking you to become a yogi or a zen master to do today’s challenge. In fact, all you have to do is sit down and breathe for 5 minutes. Set a timer. Download an app if that helps. (It sure helps me, I use HeadSpace or listen to a meditation by Tara Brach, that way someone reminds me to come back to my breath.)

This prompt is to challenge you to be present. Being present or mindful are big buzzwords right now, but they can have a real impact on your life. Being mindful can improve self-confidence and help with mental health issues like anxiety and depression. Furthermore, setting aside some time to be with yourself is crucial when we are distracted, especially when we are caught in the web of social media, doomscrolling, or comparing ourselves to others (something I catch myself doing all the time).

Coming back to presence can have an incredible impact on your mindset and help you be more kind, both to others and to yourself.

So, grocery shopping has become a “thing” for me. There I was looking for parking feeling stressed, wishing I was doing almost anything else. When I look up and see this lovely hand painted reminder. Be kind. Thank you stranger. Your act of community kindness helped me feel better.
